SpeechWare TwistMike
This first generation product from the world's premier manufacturer of microphones for the speech recognition user, SpeechWare, is a unique flexible-boom microphone incorporating an extraordinarily high-quality microphone element. By virtue of its length and flexibility, this microphone can be configured for a variety of situations. Although it includes a clamp for table or wheelchair attachment, the clamp can be removed and allows for a world of other possibilities. Potential mounting methods include:
Clamped to a desk, work-station, wheelchair, etc. using the included clamp
Snake-like mounting to a desk using a coil of the microphone to serve as a stable mounting platform.
Wrapped around the neck
Note: Although a couple of the pictures shown in the gallery show a USB adapter, this product does not include the USB adapter. We do, though, consider use of the acoustically matched SpeechWare MultiAdapter to be an ideal accessory for this product. It can also be used with other USB adapters sold on our site, including the Andrea Pure Audio USB adapter (MA or SA version).
Features:
Highly sensitive cardiod microphone capsule, the same as the award-winning TableMikes
Outstanding voice pick up directionality, which is essential for speech recognition accuracy
Extremely long (30" or 75 cm), thin (6 mm), lightweight and easy to bend microphone boom, attached to a standard 3.5 mm golden plated jack and special detachable clamp
Three working modes: attached to a table (with the clamp), winded on top of any flat surface and around the shoulders (without the clamp)
Ideal complement for existing SpeechWare USB MultiAdapter owners, providing them with identical performance as the award-winning TableMike models.
Specifications:
Length 30 inches
Weight (excluding cord) 4 oz
Analog interface (3.5 mm TRS plug)

Our take: We have totally enjoyed evaluating a prototype of this interesting microphone. Superficially it is somewhat similar to microphones sold elsewhere, but what sets this microphone apart is its greater length, increased strength (ability to stay in the position in which you place it), and the ability to remove the clamp entirely for neck and free-mounting on a table. Like most SpeechWare products, it's not inexpensive. But it's also extremely well engineered. If you truly seek the best possible performance, consider purchasing the acoustically matched MultiAdpater USB adapter shown below. It will, however, work when plugged into the onboard computer soundcard or with other external USB adapters sold on our site.

EXCEPTIONAL!
From Mark Haimes of Boulder, Colorado on 4/6/2020 .
Have been using BOOM O headset microphones for 12 years at home and office. Just replaced these with SpeechWare TwistMike (1st. generation). After some experimentation, I decided to clip the clamp to the top left of my monitor, then very slight upward slope, followed by "S" shape pointing towards the monitor with microphone element pointing towards me. Despite previously reported problems of the gooseneck not being stiff enough with this 1st. generation product, this worked without issue. It is out-of-the-way of keyboard access. A distance of 12 inches from mouth to microphone seemed optimal upon testing. This of course was hard to believe after a dozen years with the microphone element 1 inch from my mouth. With a totally new user profile (with the addition of my custom commands and custom vocabulary imported--but this includes no pronunciations), I got 99.7% accuracy! This is amazing! It has the same microphone element as the considerably more expensive TableMikes, and also less expensive than the 2nd generation TwistMike. I can't see where one would not be exceptionally pleased with a superior microphone at a great price. I loved it so much, I ordered 2 more!
Great flexible microphone

Excellent microphone for speech recognition, especially in combination with the USB MultiAdapter. Flexible placement on the desk, can be mounted almost anywhere.

9/18/2016 – Does this unit come with a foam wind filter? In any case will the standard SpeechWare table mike foam filters you sell suit this model?
Response From Speech Recognition Solutions: Yes, the TwistMike does come with a foam wind filter. The standard SpeechWare TableMike replacement windscreens are a bit larger than the TwistMike ones, and may not fit as well on the TwistMike.
