This is small, clip-on lavalier microphone manufactured for use with digital recorders, but which turns out to be a reasonably high quality microphone for general use with speech recognition software. The microphone itself is only about an inch long. It comes with a foam wind screen and small alligator clip mechanism for attaching the microphone to your shirt. Alternatively, it can be hung from a necklace or lanyard place around your neck (not included!).
For the money, we consider this a surprisingly good microphone. It's real claim, beyond economy, is the comfort. You'll almost forget you're wearing it. Given it's small footprint and low cost, this is a great microphone to pack in your computer case when you travel, or just to keep as a backup, should your regular microphone fail for any reason. Like other microphones that are mounted a distance from your mouth, it is more susceptible to outside noise cancellation, so this might not be a great microphone to use in a loud environment.
Olympus includes the microphone, wind screen, mounting set-up with alligator clip, and basic 42 inch extension cable.
